Why not involve your children in this fun to make and fruity salad?

Remember to wash your hands thoroughly!

Serves: 4

  • 1 pear
  • A handful fresh rocket leaves

  • A chopping board
  • A sharp knife (to use with an adult)

  1. Cut the lemon in half with a sharp knife. Squeeze one half on a lemon squeezer to make as much juice as you can.
  2. Halve, core and thinly slice the pear and apple into the bowl.
  3. Pour half of the lemon juice over the fruit to prevent it turning brown.
  4. Then add the rocket leaves.
  5. Mix up all the ingredients by hand.
  6. Sprinkle parmesan shavings over the salad.
  7. To make dressing, combine oil and rest of the lemon juice in a plastic drink bottle, have fun shaking until well mixed!
  8. Finally pour some of the dressing over the salad.

  1. I have to say, I really dislike rocket! I’m very boring with lettuce…bit of iceberg for me! Also can’t get Zach to eat ‘leaves’ yet! He thinks they are weird! Loves fruit though so maybe this mix would get him into eating it! Thanks so much for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday

  2. Sounds tasty. The sweetness with the rocket is an interesting one for children. My son has not been converted to eating rocket as yet but I love it. #twinklytuesday

  3. yummy, I haven’t made the kids a salad with apples and pears in would probably make it more attractive to them as they aren’t keen on salad at the minute but love their fruit. Thankyou for linking up to #KidsCorner x

  4. This sounds delicious. My daughter won’t eat salad leaves at the moment which is so frustrating. She’s going through the fussy stage. Little does she know we put kale and spinach in the green smoothies she always begs for everyday. x

  5. This looks lovely and so tasty. We have heaps of rocket growing wild in the garden. What a great way to use it up. I could get the kids to pick it for me. I love your idea of getting the kids to make it. It’s such a great way to give them some control over what they eat!

    1. That sounds a lovely salad idea too. Will certainly give that a try. Thanks for reading 🙂

  6. Oooo that looks really yummy! What a great idea, I bet the fruit lightens the peppery taste of the rocket. I will definatly be trying this one with my girls, we love trying new recipies and salad is a big favourite here at themoment!
